Headrail: the horizontal track at the top that houses the entire mechanism and mounts to the wall or window frame.
Carrier: the plastic unit inside the headrail that holds one slat and rotates it. Tilt rod: the square rod running through all carriers that turns them together.
Master carrier: the lead carrier the traverse cord pulls to slide the blinds open. Spacer links: connect carriers so they space evenly.
The controls
Tilt mechanism: the gear (wand- or cord-operated) that turns the tilt rod. Traverse cord: the pull cord that slides the slats across.
Wand: the rigid stick used to rotate slats on wand-tilt systems. Bead/ball chain: the loop used to tilt on cord-tilt systems.
The slats and bottom
Slat / vane: the vertical panel itself, in fabric or PVC. Stem: the small hook on the carrier the slat hangs from.
Bottom weight: the insert that weighs each slat down. Bottom chain / connector links: join the weights so slats hang evenly.
Valance: the decorative front cover hiding the headrail. Valance clips: snap the valance onto the headrail. Corner returns: wrap the valance ends.
