How to Replace a Vertical Blind Slat (Vane)
A single cracked, bent, or discolored vane makes an entire window of vertical blinds look tired. The good news: individual slats (also called vanes) are designed to be swapped out in seconds without taking the whole blind down. Here is exactly how to do it.

A replacement slat that matches your existing ones in material (fabric, PVC/vinyl), width (usually 3.5" or 2"), and length. Measure an existing good slat before ordering.
That's it — no drill, no ladder gymnastics beyond reaching the headrail. Vertical blind vanes hang from carrier stems and clip in by hand.
Step 1 — Remove the damaged slat
Rotate the blinds so the slats sit flat and face you (open position). At the top of each slat is a small hole or a sewn-in hanger that hooks onto a plastic carrier stem in the headrail.
Gently support the slat, tilt its top toward you, and unhook it from the stem. Vinyl slats slide off the hook; fabric slats usually have a plastic clip or a metal/plastic weight and a hanger hole that lifts off.
Step 2 — Attach the new slat
Take your replacement vane and, if it's fabric, transfer the bottom weight and any chain connector clips from the old slat if the new one didn't come with them.
Line up the hanger hole with the carrier stem hook and press it on until it seats. For PVC slats, slide the slotted top over the stem hook until it clicks. Give it a light tug to confirm it's secure.
Step 3 — Re-attach the bottom chain
Most vertical blinds have a bottom chain or connector links joining the weights so the slats hang evenly and don't blow around. Clip the new slat's weight into the chain the same way the neighbors are connected.
Rotate the blinds closed and open a couple of times to confirm the new slat swings freely and lines up with the rest.
