How to Fix Vertical Blinds That Won't Rotate
When your vertical blinds won't rotate — the slats stay stuck at one angle no matter how you turn the wand or pull the chain — the problem is almost always inside the headrail: a stripped tilt gear, a disconnected tilt rod, or a broken carrier. Here's how to track it down.

Turn the tilt wand or pull the tilt chain slowly. If it spins with zero resistance, the tilt mechanism has disconnected from the tilt rod. If it won't move at all, a carrier or gear is jammed.
Watch the carriers (the plastic units the slats hang from). If some rotate and others don't, the un-rotating carriers have failed and need replacing.
Step 2 — Check the tilt mechanism and rod
Pop the end cap off the headrail and look at the square metal tilt rod that runs its length. Each carrier clips onto this rod. If the rod has slipped out of the tilt mechanism gear, reseat it.
If turning the wand spins the gear but not the rod, the gear teeth are stripped. The tilt control (wand-tilt or cord-tilt mechanism) is a cheap, replaceable part that slides onto the rod.
Step 3 — Replace failed carriers
Slide the non-rotating carrier to the end of the headrail (you may need to remove the end cap and stem clip). Note how it clips onto the tilt rod — the new one goes on identically.
Feed the replacement carrier onto the rod, space it evenly with the others, and re-hang the slat. Test rotation before moving on.
