How to Measure Vertical Blind Slats for Replacement
Ordering replacement slats that arrive the wrong size is the most common — and most avoidable — mistake in vertical blind repair. Three measurements get it right every time: slat width, slat length, and slat count. Here's exactly how to take each.

Lay a single slat flat and measure across it. The overwhelming majority of vertical blinds use 3.5-inch (89mm) wide vanes; a smaller share use 2-inch. Measure — don't assume.
Width determines the carrier and the stem spacing, so it must match your existing headrail exactly.
Slat length
Measure a good existing slat from the very top (including the hanger hole area) to the bottom. For fabric slats, measure to the bottom hem where the weight sits.
If your slats have dragged on the floor and frayed, measure your window drop instead and subtract about half an inch of clearance.
Slat count
Count the carriers in your headrail, not just the slats currently hanging (some may be missing). That number is how many vanes you need to fully populate the blind.
As a rough check: for 3.5" slats, slat count ≈ headrail width in inches ÷ 3, depending on overlap.
