First, rotate the slats fully open (flat) — carriers only slide freely when the slats are in the open position. Trying to traverse closed blinds jams them.
Gently push the carriers apart by hand so they're evenly spaced. Overlapping or twisted carriers are the number one cause of a stuck traverse.
Step 2 — Inspect the traverse cord and master carrier
The master carrier is the lead carrier the pull cord attaches to; it drags the others via spacer links. If the cord has slipped off its pulley or the master carrier's cord clamp has failed, the blinds won't move.
Re-seat the cord in the end-cap pulleys and confirm it's clamped to the master carrier. A frayed or stretched cord should be replaced.
Step 3 — Lubricate and test
Wipe the track clean and apply a dry silicone lubricant (never oil, which attracts grime) along the channel the carriers ride in.
Pull the cord smoothly to traverse fully open and closed a few times. Sticky spots usually mean a cracked carrier that should be swapped out.
